“We’re getting three guys that are good right now, and Tyrese has an opportunity to develop further….” At the age of 21, finding a franchise-caliber point guard is incredibly tough.”

The deal was finalized after Sabonis, Holiday, and Lamb took part in a practice session prior to Tuesday’s game. At the team’s hotel, Carlisle claimed he spoke with all three players and was the first to inform Sabonis of the deal.

Sabonis provides an immediate improvement in the paint for the Kings. He has developed into a double-double machine, averaging 18.9 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. Richaun Holmes, who averaged 7.9 rebounds per game before the trade, is Sacramento’s best rebounder.

Sabonis could make a difference for a team that already has some young, talented players like De’Aaron Fox and Davion Mitchell at point guard. Sabonis’ presence might allow the Kings to make even more moves. Or he could act as a mentor to other young players. Sacramento is attempting to enter the playoffs for the first time since 2006, the NBA’s longest ongoing postseason drought.
