The manager of Manchester City recently said that Pep Guardiola would look up to Michael Jordan, even though they both played for the Chicago Bulls at the same time.
Pep joined FC Barcelona’s first team in 1990, and Johan Cruyff, the founder of soccer, taught him how to play. Around this time, most people thought Michael Jordan was the best basketball player who ever lived.
In 1992, when the Olympics were held in Barcelona, Pep Guardiola led the team to its first European Cup victory. At that time, Jordan was the face of the Dream Team and had already won two titles. Guardiola was one of the best players ever, but his career was nothing compared to Michael Jordan’s. Jordan was the kind of athlete whose fame went beyond his sport when he was at the top of his game.
But because of their luck, things are different away from the court. Pep Guardiola is the best football manager in the world since Sir Alex Ferguson, but MJ’s time in the front office and as an owner has been objectively and unquestionably terrible. Still, everyone in sports has respect for Jordan’s drive to win. A recent interview excerpt shows that Guardiola definitely feels that way.

Pep Guardiola has talked about marijuana before, so when he decided it was okay to talk about Michael Jordan’s greatness in a press conference for the Champions League semifinal match against PSG, Man City was on track to win the treble in the 2020–21 EPL season:
“Michael Jordan never said anything bad about my manager or agency to the press. He won a lot of NBA titles. Show it. There are the ones that are big. I only know one way to do my job. Know that I will always be there for them.”
