The tennis prodigy Serena Williams was presented with the Jackie Robinson Sports Award on Saturday night at the NAACP Image Awards in Pasadena, California. Brittney Griner, who plays center for the Phoenix Mercury, also received honors at the event.
After winning 23 Grand Slam singles titles, Serena Williams was honored for their “exceptional success in athletics together with their pursuit of social justice, civil rights, and community involvement.”
Serena Williams devotes a significant amount of time and energy to philanthropic work and manages a venture capital fund that provides financial backing to businesses that place an emphasis on diversity.
This honor, which is named after the historical figure who was the first person of color to play in Major League Baseball, has been bestowed upon the likes of Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Magic Johnson of the NBA, as well as the Harlem Globetrotters and sprinter Wilma Rudolph.

However after being acknowledged by the awards show host, Queen Latifah, Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle made their way onto the stage together.
