Zion Williamson is one step closer to returning to the basketball court in NBA. Williamson has been allowed to resume basketball exercises. And will return to the New Orleans Pelicans, according to Shams Charania and Will Guillory of The Athletic.

This is fantastic news for Williamson, the Pelicans, and their supporters. Williamson was said to need a second operation just a few weeks ago. Suddenly, he’s back on schedule to play in a game before the season’s finish.

And news of Williamson’s likely comeback couldn’t have come at a better time. The Pels, who have surged into a play-in position in recent days. Since May 4, 2021, Williamson hasn’t played in an NBA game. Williamson injured his foot over the offseason just before summer league, necessitating surgery.

The Pelicans announced this at the end of September 2021. Expressing hope that he will return in time for the regular season. He wouldn’t be back in time, but he was almost there.

But that’s when Williamson’s upward development halted and he began to regress. He had discomfort in his surgically repaired right foot just five days after being cleared for full basketball exercises. The discomfort remained, and he was barred from participating in any basketball exercises.

Williamson finally had an injection in his foot. But the Pelicans announced in early January that he wasn’t even recuperating with the club. He was rehabbing in Portland, Oregon. whilst still under the custody of the team

We didn’t hear much about Williamson after that, but we did learn that he and C.J. McCollum, the Pels’ newest addition, hadn’t talked since he arrived. We also discovered that Williamson’s foot was still not mending properly.

Christian Clark of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported towards the end of February. That he could need a second surgery on his right foot. This would almost probably keep him out for the remainder of the season.
