NBA Update: In Honour of Bill Russell, the Boston Celtics Have Added the Number Six in Parquet Paint

To honor the Hall of Famer who passed away this summer, the Boston Celtics have painted Bill Russell’s No. 6 in the free throw lanes on their parquet court. According to a statement released by the Celtics on Monday, “the organization has put the number 6 in both lanes to pay tribute to Bill Russell’s outstanding dominance in the paint.”

The team has stated that it would pay tribute to Russell in several ways this year, including by dedicating two evenings to him – one for the season opener on October 18 and one on February 12, the day before he would have been 89.

Additionally, for some of their games, the Celtics will wear a unique jersey with a Russell motif. Additionally, they will have a tribute to him in their usual attire. Every club in the NBA has agreed to retire the number 6 in memory of the 11-time NBA champion and civil rights leader who passed away on July 31. The No. 6 will be visible on each home court’s sideline next to the scorer’s table.

An NBA legend named Bill Russell once made the hilarious revelation that he and Wilt Chamberlain had competed against each other in a cross-country race in one of their supercars.

Even though they are no longer with us, Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain will forever be recognized as two of the greatest players in NBA history. Fans of basketball continue to honor the two big men because of their long list of honors and accomplishments in the game.

Fans watched as Mr. Eleven Rings and Wilt the Stilt competed on the floor in what is believed to be the first widely publicised NBA rivalry ever to take place. In spite of the fact that they were fierce competitors on the court, the two former NBA greats shared a profound and one-of-a-kind relationship. In fact, Russell said that the two rarely talked about basketball when they were together.

Due to the fact that playing in the NBA alone was not sufficient to make a living during that time period, athletes were compelled to perform odd jobs during the off-season. However, Russell and Chamberlain would pave the way for future generations to profit from their work. The two players who are now enshrined in the NBA Hall of Fame were the first ones to sign a contract for $100,000 a year.

Russell certainly had a sense of humor, as shown by his teasing of Charles Barkley and his hilarious acceptance speech for the lifetime achievement award, in which he threatened to give Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and David Robinson, amongst other members of the Hall of Fame, an a** kick. Russell was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993.

However, the Celtics legend did have some hilarious moments, including one in which he interacted with a fan on Twitter. When asked whose Lamborghini he was driving, Russell provided an explanation of how he and Chamberlain would race across the country in their respective supercars.

The spectacle that would be put on for spectators by the contest between the two NBA veterans would definitely be one to remember. Despite the fact that Russell said that he had won the race, it is clear that they are continually going back and forth with insults.

Chamberlain mentioned in an earlier interview how, as a result of their close connection, the Celtics center would stop by his house on Thanksgiving for dinner one evening before the two teams played each other.
