NED VS ENG: England batsman Jos Buttler has stated that the team will continue to attempt to surpass the 500-run mark in one-day internationals. Although tough to achieve, he believes it can happen on a batting-friendly track on a small ground.

England came close to surpassing that milestone on June 17 (Friday), when they set a world-record total of 498 against the Netherlands in their first ODI at VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen.

Jos Buttler believes that it is the team’s mentality to continuously try to develop and better themselves that matters, regardless of how well they do. In the first ODI against the Netherlands, the wicketkeeper-batsman hit an unbroken 162 runs off 70 balls, breaking the team’s previous mark of 481-6 established against Australia in 2018.

“We’ve come close one time before this and the message in the team is to try to keep pushing boundaries and taking the team forward, take the game on. Is it a matter of time before we make 500? I don’t know. We’ll keep trying to do it.” Jos Buttler.

England’s 498-4 also surpassed Surrey’s previous best in List-A cricket, which was 496-4 in 2007. It was “amazing,” according to England captain Eoin Morgan, and not something that can be taken for granted.

Following his magnificent knock in Amstelveen, he also dubbed Buttler the finest white-ball cricketer in the world right now. For his continuous hitting against the Dutch bowlers, Buttler was named Player of the Match in a 232-run victory over the hosts.

“Jos played in a world of his own as he had been over the last year or two years. It’s incredible to watch and not something we ever get sick of or take for granted. It really is amazing cricket. It is the reason he probably is the best white-ball cricketer in the world at the moment.” Eoin Morgan.

In one-day internationals, England has exceeded the 400-run barrier five times and has the three greatest scores in the format. That including a 444-3 against Pakistan in 2016. Sri Lanka had previously held the record with a score of 443-9, which was also achieved at Amstelveen in 2006.
