Author’s Take:
The entire Neymar to PSG deal is record-breaking in many senses. It is not very difficult to see how important the Paris Saint-Germain board consider Neymar. PSG will pay huge transfer money and will be paying huge wages, for a player who is not only highly talented but also highly marketable.
PSG were knocked out in the Round of 16 of the UCL, all thanks to Neymar’s incredible performance in the 2nd leg. They also finished 2nd in the Ligue 1 behind AS Monaco. They will be looking at Neymar to be the talisman they were lacking last time around.
According to Forbes, the Brazilian is the 18th highest-paid sports star in the world with £11.54m earned from his salary and £17m from endorsements alone. The board will be looking to market Neymar for PSG because when they sign a player of such a high calibre and popularity, the popularity of the club, and also the commercial interest in the club is going to rise.
This deal looks very expensive on the outright but the PSG board are looking at the long term prospects here and they will be pulling all the strings to make the deal go through.
