Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson is under fire for comments he made about Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

Peterson, the 2008 NFL MVP, had a problem with what Damar Hamlin wore to Super Bowl LVII on Sunday and expressed his displeasure on social media.

According to TMZ, Damar Hamlin was wearing a “$3,150 Takashi Murakami ‘Travis Jesus’ jacket… adorned with a crucifix with an altered Jesus head” as he made a pre-game appearance with the first responders who saved his life.

Peterson chose to vent his rage on social media.

“You should praise God, son!” This is heresy!! We’re all fallible, but come on, guy! I find this disrespectful!! #grateful #goddid”

Peterson subsequently stated on Instagram that he was attempting to reconcile with Damar Hamlin

“So I spoke with @d.ham3 about it. Damar Hamlin and I were able to talk about our feelings as males. To be clear, I am the last person to pass judgment on anyone, and that was never my aim. However, I believe the jacket was insulting, and I felt compelled to convey my thoughts.

I understand that everyone makes errors and falls short at times, thus my purpose was never to judge, only to express my opinion. Damar, I love and admire you and wish you all the best, but I just can’t pull off that jacket.

I have the impression that many people, young and old, look up to you, and that with power and influence comes great responsibility. I apologize for offending you; I was simply offended as a man who loves and respects our Lord and Savior, Yeshua, at the time. After conversing with Damar, I’ve come to realize that it wasn’t done maliciously! #thankyou #God #forgiveness”

The circumstance, however, did not sit well with former running back Fred Taylor, who responded to Peterson’s comments

You should message him, bro… I’m sure he’s listening to your opinion. It serves no purpose to post it. He’s young, and young people, like others who wear skulls and other items that contradict Christian values, don’t always think before they wear them. Make an attempt to contact him.

Peterson, on the other hand, refused to let it go and responded to Taylor

But this was unique! I know that young people, and sometimes older people, do not think! But with everything going on around him!! This isn’t one of those instances where a young man isn’t thinking!

Damar Hamlin is recovering after his near-death experience against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football in Week 17 when he fell into cardiac arrest and required CPR before being transferred to a local hospital.
