Neymar’s season full of controversies at PSG can come to an end even before the world cup and Nike might play a big role in it.
Neymar moved to Paris as a part of “big project” back in August. The project was to bring European glory to Paris. But Neymar and team failed at the very first stop when they lost to Real Madrid 5-2 on aggregate. The Brazilian has since been rumored with a move back to Spain with both Barcelona and Real Madrid as an option.
But the reports from AS claim that the Brazilian will move to Real Madrid and Nike could play a big role in it. Neymar along with Cristiano Ronaldo is the biggest face of Nike’s advertisement campaigns. Nike has realized that both of their main athletes playing for the same club will be a gold mine for the brand and are pushing for a move.
Adidas is the current kit suppliers of Real Madrid with the German brand having a deal worth €40m until 2020. But Nike is hopeful to get their logo on the Madrid jerseys by helping them land Neymar at the Santiago Bernabeu. If the rumors are to be believed, Nike is even ready to pay the part of Neymar’s transfer fee. The American sports brand has an outside chance to get Real’s attention as Adidas’s contract extension talks did not go well with the European Champions.
The rumors of the winger moving to Spain’s capital were strengthened by SPORT. The newsletter has claimed that Neymar Jr. has asked his father and agent Neymar Sr. to finalize the deal with Los Blancos before the World Cup. The Brazilian missed his country’s semi-final in 2014 due to injury, where Brazil lost to Germany in 7-1 humiliation. Reportedly, the forward does not want any more distractions this time when he wears the yellow and blue strips of the Selecao.

The 26-year old is currently sidelined due to injury after enjoying a stellar first season at PSG, scoring 28 goals in 30 appearances.
The Neymar saga is bound to go on until he finally moves to either Barca or Madrid or gives PSG a word about his future. But after PSG’s failure in Champions League, the first option is more likely. Nike’s role can also be crucial to the battle between Nike and Adidas for supremacy. But the transfer will be complicated and will be dragged for months before we see any official news. What have done to my game, money-makers?
