The Catalans swooped in at the last moment to steal Roma’s deal for the Brazilian winger Malcom.
Barcelona is well and truly on fire in the ongoing transfer window. After signing Arthur and Lenglet in the past few weeks, the Catalans have announced their third signing of the summer. The La Liga champions have signed Bordeaux winger Malcom for €41m.
Operation Malcom in less than 24 hours:
Serie A club Roma announced the signing of Malcom on Monday for a transfer fee of €38m. The Brazilian was scheduled to take a flight to the Italian capital to complete the signing. But the Catalan club entered the race at the last moment and offered €41m for the player, an offer Bordeaux could not reject.
Malcom arrived in Barcelona on Tuesday and will undergo a medical on Wednesday before flying to the United States to join his new team-mates for pre-season friendlies. The Brazilian had garnered interests from various clubs after his heroics for Bordeaux in Ligue 1. Malcom scored 12 goals and bagged 7 assists last season in 35 appearances.
The winger is only 21 right now and has what it takes to be the best in the game. Malcom is known for his pace and dribbling on the right flanks and is more than capable of finding the back of the net from long distance. He will join an already deadly attacking combination of Messi, Suarez, Coutinho, and Dembele at Barcelona.

The signing of Malcom is also likely to end Barcelona’s interest in Chelsea’s Willian. The Catalans had their three bids rejected by the Blues before signing Malcom. The Spanish giants now have four Non-EU players in their ranks including, Coutinho, Yerri Mina, Arthur, and Malcom. La Liga’s regulations allow only three Non-EU players at the club, which should see Yerri Mina heading out to Everton.
Barcelona will face Tottenham, Roma and AC Milan in their pre-season friendlies in the USA. The La Liga Champions will then face Sevilla on 12th August for the Spanish Super Cup.
Malcom is a great signing for Barcelona and his pace and attacking will be a great advantage for the Catalans. Although, it will be interesting to see Barcelona’s first choice team in the coming weeks as both Malcom and Dembele prefer to play on the right side of attack. And with all due respect to Willian, it must be a relief for Barcelona fans to see the club spending money on a 21-year old Malcom instead of 29-year old Willian.
