Manchester United have remained quiet in the winter window but there has been an official statement confirming that they have made a move at last.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had claimed that the club would not be active in the transfer window. The fans expected the same. The club would put a structure in place before moving players in and out. But the club has now confirmed that they have conducted some business. Let’s just say Manchester United fans are happy about what the club has decided to do.
Fellaini leaves Manchester United
Marouane Fellaini has left Manchester United to join Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng on a permanent deal. Reports had emerged that the Belgian international had travelled to China on Thursday to undergo a medical. The Belgium international leaves United after five and a half years having won the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.
“Everybody at United thanks Marouane for his service and wishes him well for the future as he completes his move to Shandong Luneng Taishan FC in China,” read the club’s statement.
Fellaini made 177 appearances in total and signed an extension just last summer after becoming a key piece to Jose Mourinho’s squad. But the Portuguese’s sacking and the arrival of Solskjaer has signalled the end of his time at the club.
Marouane Fellaini arrived at Manchester United on Deadline Day as David Moyes’ only first-team signing. But since then he has been labelled as the epitome of United’s fall from grace. Under Mourinho, the 31-year-old won back the fans’ trust to an extent with his decisive goals both in Europe and in the league.
Given Solskjaer’s modern method of breaking teams down, even when losing, Fellaini is no longer required to United. The Plan B option that Fellaini’s profile offers simply isn’t desired by Solskjaer. It remains to be seen whether Solskjær will regret selling Fellaini who offers something different from regular. But refining the Plan A before working out a Plan B should be the priority now for the Red Devils.
