The player’s contract expires at the end of the season and can be available for free.

Manchester United are looking to return to winning ways as they face Wolves in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Saturday night. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tasted his first domestic defeat as caretaker manager last weekend against Arsenal and can’t afford any complacency in the last eight encounter. United are looking to reach the FA Cup semi-final in consecutive seasons for the first time since doing so in 2005 under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The likes of Coutinho and Jaden Sancho have been linked with a possible move to United at the end of the season. But Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc said earlier this week the 18-year-old will not be sold this summer. However it seems Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign this Liverpool target.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Manchester United to sanction deal for PSG star Adrien Rabiot. Manchester United are interested in signing PSG contract rebel Adrien Rabiot with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly a fan of the French midfielder. Rabiot was not part of the PSG squad that were knocked out of the Champions League by United earlier this month, having been demoted to the reserves after making it clear he would run down his contract and leave on a free transfer.

He had been expected to join Barcelona, though that deal now appears to be dead. The Frenchman now looks likeliest to move to the Premier League with Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs all interested. According to recent reports, United are positioning themselves to make a play for Rabiot, who is demanding wages of around £200,000-a-week and a £10m signing-on fee. That is not a problem for United, with Solskjaer willing to pay up for a player he believes has great ability.

Rabiot was a key part of PSG’s midfield until it became clear he would not renew his deal and the decision to ostracise him was made by sporting director Antero Henriquez not manager Thomas Tuchel. The 23-year-old has a reputation for being a difficult character, with Didier Deschamps electing not to call him up for France, while he went out to a nightclub straight after United beat PSG.

Nevertheless, United are on the lookout for a ‘midfield link player’ for the long-term, with Nemanja Matic 30 years old and Ander Herrera out of contract in the summer himself. Solskjaer is interested in Rabiot to fill that position, especially if Herrera cannot be persuaded to sign a new deal.

Author’s Take:

Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will face significant competition from the likes of Liverpool – who Rabiot actually supported when he was growing up. The fact that he’s available for free means there’s a possibility of wage war between the English clubs for the signature of the Frenchmen.
