Manchester United need to balance the frontline with a younger option from the transfer window.
Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy urged Manchester United to sign a younger option who can provide the quality of Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani. Ole Gunner Solkjaer has not yet planned a January incoming in his squad but the season has put some pressure on Red Devils after a couple of show pieces in the table.
Old Trafford has been active in the last summer transfer window as well as in January window. But some of their speculations didn’t worked out.
The Sancho project was the priority for United last season but change of plans put them on a new track. The arrival of Bruno Fernandez from Sporting has added a new rhythm in the midfield.
They have also spent on Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek last season. Both additions in the midfield tuned in the formation success under Ole and the fresh start to a new season has taken the team to a new ground of expectations. The role of Pogba also improved in the midfield since the arrival of Fernandez. But the wish for a striker remained unfulfilled in Old Trafford.
The sharpness after Cavani
After 7 years of service in the French capital, Edinson Cavani became a free agent last season. The plans of Ole went upside down and Cavani was the pick of United for the season despite the age of the player.
He joined Old Trafford in a free transfer and showed up some good moves in the frontline align with Rashford and Martial. The wide winger role of Rashford got a good partnership after the addition of Cavani to the forward line.
The playing style of Anthony Martial also got improved and both of them are leading the goal scorer stat for the team. The experienced Cavani scored 4 goals in all competitions along with 5 goals of Martial with 11 starts lesser than the Frenchmen. He also assisted two times in finding the back of the net.
Cavani is facing three games ban from English FA on the charge of misconduct in social media post in November. The 33 year old centre-forward’s contrcat come to an end this season and United has not shown any sign of extension. There is a chance that Cavani should stay for another season if the team manages to continue with the form.
The toughest season for Red Devils
According to Jason Cundy, United missed out the presance of Cavani in the derby loss. “He would have played, whether he would have started or come off the bench, who knows, but they missed him, they really did miss him”, he said (Express). He also pointed out that Martial and Rashford has got different roles to do in front and Ole should find the future version for Cavani as the player is serving the centre-forward role in a perfect way.
Another comment came from United legend Dimitar Berbatov involving Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.
According to former defender, United should look for Ramos this transfer window as the contract of the Spaniard is ending this season in Madrid. But the thirteen time Champions of Europe has not shown any sign of leaving their captain as long as Zidane is on watch.
Even though, a long term contract is unlikely for Ramos in Madrid as the age is always a concern for Champion teams. Berbatov said that United need an experienced defender like Ramos as soon as possible as the competition is getting tougher this season. The red devils are leading the table with champions liverpool as the fans started dreaming their good old days.
