Pochetino targets three players to overhaul his side in a new year, including Sporting CP Midfielder.
Mauricio Pochetino side is expected to have a busy transfer window. The North London outfit is all set to strengthen his side in January. He is keen to bring two new midfielders to Spurs.
Pochetino looks to offload some player while also drawing up a shortlist of potential players to bring in. The desired name from the list includes Sporting CP’s Bruno Fernandes, a summer transfer target of Spurs. Full backs from Norwich’s Max Aarons and West Brom’s Nathan Ferguson are also on Spurs’ radar.
Spurs have got back into their winning form on Tuesday night as they defeated Red Star Belgrade 5-0 in the Champions League. They have made a start to the season indifferently and currently find themselves in the seventh position in the table after nine games.
The Portuguese midfielder was one of the most in-demand players throughout the whole summer transfer window. So many European clubs were in line, looking at the Midfielder as the potential target including Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur from England.
Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas reported the Portuguese club rejected Tottenham’s £60million offer who wanted to secure Fernandes services in summer. But the club is planning to come back in for him.
According to the reports, they were close to agreeing on a deal but because £18m of the fee was made up of several add-ons Frederico Varandas rejected the deal.
However, the 47-year-old Argentine has previously admitted to the difficulties he had with the “different agendas in the squad” and the club are appearing to get ready to cut their losses in the January window.
Pochettino said after the win on Tuesday night.
“We need to stay calm”.
Look, of course, to celebrate a victory is so important, but we know we need to work hard to improve.
It’s always the first little step that is important to cut the negative dynamic and in football, we know that.“
The 24-year-old is expected to be a replacement for Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen, who is in the final year of the contract.
Tottenham remains keen on Fernandes even after facing the rejection to the £60m deal. Spurs would need to fill up the void that will be created by the absence of star Midfielder Christian Eriksen. With the Tottenham midfield struggling this season, the introduction of Portuguese Midfielder will be an advantage for Lilywhites to get better in the second half of the season.
