Mauricio Pochettino is back in management and this time he is back at home. The former Spurs manager is right now managing PSG, he spent two years with the Parisians. Thomas Tuchel was sacked mid-season and he Argentinian took the job since leaving Spurs in 2019.
With his arrival, the Ligue 1 giants would want to do some business to please thier new head coach. According to the Daily Mail, Paris Saint Germain want to sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United. He is said to be the top target for the club.
The Frenchman has been heavily linked with an exit from the club for a long time now. There have been times where his statements have made headlines for wrong reasons. While his infamous agent Mino Riola has not been behind. Last year he has publicly stated that Pogba wants to leave the club.
There have been reports that Manchester United are ready to sell him next season. Since his $89 million move he hasn’t been able to justify his price tag. Not only this, his off the field controversies haven’t really helped him and it looks like next season he will leave.
Pochettino wants Pogba at PSG
In 2019, Zinedine Zidane wanted to sign Paul Pogba for Real Madrid. However, Florentino Perez was not interested in the move. He believed that United asking price of $100 million was way too high. Perez also wanted to protect the development of Federico Valverde and Martin Ødegaard.
While Juventus have also been linked with a move for him. Pogba spent four years at Juve, where he made his name. A reunion has been rumoured but finances have a problem for the Bianconeri. But now with Pochettino at the club, PSG have also joined the race.
The Argentinian wants to rebuild the Parisians and wants Pogba at the club to rebuild his squad. He thinks that the Frenchman is the perfect player for his team. This season he has struggled to get into the starting line up as Solskjear has largely used him as a bench player.
Despite this, he is still a hot property in world football. Manchester United would still ask for $75 million as a reduced price for the Frenchman. The Red Devils had to reduce their price tag for him as the world cup winner will enter the final year of his contract.
12th Man Opinion
There is a saying that rich people not only have more money but they also know how to judiciously use thier money. PSG are one of the richest clubs in world football thanks to thier Qatari money. However, they must spend it judiciously as well.
On paper Pogba definitely looks like a perfect player but on paper, he is not. It has been four years and Manchester United are yet to identify his best position. He has often shown lack of respect towards the club by making comments off the field and not asking his agent to not speak against the club.
Even if all this is overlooked his performances haven’t been good enough. Even at the age of 28, he finds too hard to play well consistently. The talent is there but it is not matched with consistency. PSG would be better off not spending their money on him.
Also, Chrisitan Eriksen is avilable and Pochettino knows how to get the best out of him. He will be a better and cheaper alternative than Pogba. Thus signing Pogba will be expensive given his transfer fees, agent fees and wages, thus PSG should not sign him.
