The intriguing fixture between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab had its moments. Both teams went toe-to-toe with each other right from the start. Eventually, Steve Smith’s side came out on top much to KL Rahul team’s annoyance.
Batting first, Kings XI Punjab posted 223/2 in 20 overs. Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul added a record 183-run stand for the opening wicket. Mayank top-scored for Kings XI with 106 off 50 balls with the help of 10 fours and 7 sixes.
Lokesh Rahul continued his form from where he left off and scored a half-century. He ended up scoring 69 off 54 balls with 7 fours and a six. In reply, Rajasthan Royals lost the dangerous Jos Buttler early on in the innings.
However, Sanju Samson and Steve Smith took the game away from the visitors. Steve Smith scored 27-ball-50 (7 fours, 2 sixes) while Sanju Samson top-scored for the Royals with 42-ball-85 (4 fours, 7 sixes).
Rahul Tewatia changed the course of the game with his 31-ball-53 with the help of 7 sixes. Rajasthan Royals beat Kings XI Punjab by 4 wickets in 19.3 overs. Sanju Samson was the man of the match for his brilliant batting display.
Earlier, the left-handed batsman stunned everyone by scoring 25 off just 8 balls. His quickfire knock included 3 sixes and a four. After a much-needed contribution with the bat, the West Indies player showcased his incredible fielding show.
During the third ball of 8th over, Sanju Samson smashed Murugan Ashwin for a huge shot. Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran who was a deep midwicket region stopped the ball from going for a six with a superb effort.
Nicholas Pooran dived full length over the boundary rope with full commitment. In the process, he caught the ball and flicked it back to all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Nicholas Pooran’s splendid fielding saw Kings XI save four important runs.
Even Kings XI Punjab’s fielding coach Jonty Rhodes was impressed with Pooran’s effort. After witnessing Pooran’s fielding masterclass, Rhodes stood up and applauded the Caribbean.
While we are heaping praise on Nicholas Pooran’s fielding effort, we missed out on Riyan Parag’s fielding which is worth applauding. Rajasthan Royals’ youngster saved a certain six on the field against Kings XI Punjab.
The incident took place during the seventh over of KXIP’s batting. During the fifth ball of that over, Shreyas Gopal bowled a length ball to Mayank Agarwal. KXIP opener whacked it over the long-on region where the ball was easily traveling for a six.
Riyan Parag who was fielding at long-on stopped the ball comfortably and saved five important runs for the side.
