Football is a funny game- at times it can produce boring stuff which isn’t really interesting to watch. No goals, no drama, no entertainment. But at times we have matches like these when both teams have a furious go at each other.

The FA Cup fifth-round match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton produced a flurry of goals from both sides which saw a 5-4 win for Everton courtesy of a late strike in extra time by Bernard.

A thrilling game nonetheless and from the perspective of a neutral fan – a treat to watch. The Spurs took an early lead courtesy of Davidson Sanchez who scored from the corner by Heung Min Son past Everton goalkeeper Robin Olsen who was in place of Jordan Pickford. Richarlison and Sigurdsson cancelled out Tottenham Hotspur’s early lead through Davidson Sanchez

The goalkeeping at both ends didn’t live up to the mark required. Both goalkeepers let in some regulation goals which should’ve been stopped. But the strike from Dominic Calvert Lewin was definitely not one of them! A thunderous volley to level things up for Everton.

Calvert-Lewin scored for Everton against Tottenham

As soon as Everton got the equaliser they looked much more comfortable in play and created more chances. Gylfi Sigurdsson looked threatening throughout the night and tried to find spaces behind the backline. Brazilian winger Richarlison put the hosts ahead with a low show in the corner.

Once again Gylfi Sigurdsson found a lovely through ball to set Dominic Calvert-Lewin free but he was tripped by Hojberg and referee Coote pointed to the spot. Sigurdsson calmly found the back of the net and Everton had a two-goal buffer.

Jose Mourinho is happy with Tottenham effort but not about the defensive mistakes

Eric Lamela pulled one back for the visitors and instilled some hope in them. The Argentine forward scored from a tight angle past Olsen. Once again Tottenham Hotspur capitalised from a set-piece opportunity to level things at 3-3 with Sanchez scoring again.

Everton lost Dominic Calvert-Lewin through injury and just minutes later Heung Min Son’s corner was met at the near post by Toby Alderweireld. His first-time effort was palmed away by Olsen but Davidson Sanchez was there to convert.

Richarlison once again squeezed the ball in from a difficult position but one has to say that Hugo Lloris was dismal throughout the match. A regulation shot from Richarlison found its way into the net. However, Harry Kane on his return came to Tottenham Hotspur’s rescue once again.

A milestone achievement for him as he became Tottenham’s second all-time highest goalscorer with 209 goals to his name. The partnership between Heung Min Son and him came to the forefront as he converted a cross from Son.

But it was Bernard who had the last laugh- Gylfi Sigurdsson supplied an exquisite chip into the box and Bernard only had to apply the finishing touches. A match which was never short of action ended with one moment of individual brilliance. Jose Mourinho was upset with the individual errors but pleased with the team’s performance:

Of course in extra time the finesse and quality dropped, that’s normal, but we were dynamic and creative all night. That is what I have been asking of the players so I am happy about that but don’t push me too much please about the defensive mistakes. I don’t feel comfortable speaking about it. We made mistakes and were punished for it.
