Running down all animated down the touchline, hugging the supporters, jumping all around, it’s fair to say Antonio Conte really enjoyed his first win as Chelsea’s new boss. Chelsea dominated the game as Eden Hazard put up a great performance against a compact Hammers’ side, in the opening fixture of the Blues’ new Premier League season. In their 2-1 win over West Ham even though the Blues won convincingly there were elements in their game which still need to be better.
This weekend Chelsea take a trip to Watford and we look at how the Antonio Conte side will line up :
DEFENCE : He played a back 4 in his first Chelsea managerial game and he’ll again look to start with a back 4. Thiabut Courtois will certainly maintain his place in Chelsea’s first team. The Belgian had a good game against Hammers, but there are certain aspects to his game that need to be brushed up, he has that knack of letting one in even after a great game.
With Kurt Zouma still out with a knee injury and no new centre-back signed as yet, I think we’ll see four at the back again on Saturday. Conte has very few options to mix things up so it looks like Gary Cahill will continue alongside John Terry in the middle of defence with Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta keeping their places in the full-back positions.
MIDFIELD : Chelsea lined up in a very 4-1-4-1 formation, as Kantè was placed in a Makalelè role. Cesc Fabregas was asked to sit on the bench but he will most likely feature against Watford and Oscar will start from the bench.
Kantè, Matic will be on their defensive midfield and Cesc Fabregas will most likely replace in the more advance role in midfield.
ATTACK : Eden Hazard was back to his glamorous best against the Hammers and he’ll be looking to continue that form in to this weekend. Pedro will replace Willian on the right wing while Diego Costa should feel fortunate he’s not suspended for this game after that tackle on Adrian and escaping a certain sending off last time out.
Summer signing Michy Batshuayi will be on the bench. It’ll be an important game for the Stamford Bridge outfit as they’ll try to make a statement to the rest of the Premier league clubs. Chelsea also look to be in the market for certain positions so every player on the field will look to give a solid performance to keep their places in the first team.
The English Premier League started with a bang in the first week and we’ll look ahead to see what the weekend brings for us, with United already beating Southampton 2-0 at Old Trafford on Friday night.
