UCL returns with game week 2 action and we have got a juice encounter ready. It’s none other than Bayern München vs Barcelona. Both these teams were once again drawn into the same group: Group C
Last year too these two teams were drawn in the same group and the result was in favour of Bayern. Bayern Munich defeated Barcelona by a margin of 3-0 both home and away. The aggregate was 6-0 in total and Barca was eventually dropped down to the Europa League.
But this year’s outcome might be different. Especially after Bayern Star man from last year’s clash Robert Lewandowski has swapped sides and will be playing in Barca colours. With the arrival of the Polish International and other mega signings, Barcelona has looked like a completely different unit. The Catalans look ready to go toe to toe against the mighty Bayern on the grand stage of the Champions League.
With this epic clash upcoming. Let’s dive deep into what could line up for these two teams for their match at the iconic Allianz Arena stadium.
Predicted Line-ups for Bayern vs Barcelona Clash
With Barcelona resting most of their heavyweights in their La Liga clash this weekend. It was a clear indication that manager Xavi Hernandez was already thinking about their clash against Bayern. But another thing to note was Barca’s squad depth this season. Even after using their 2nd team, they managed to score 4 goals and win the game handsomely.
In goal, we will surely have Marc Ter Stegen as he is in top-notch form and would want to prove his point in his home country. In defence, we will see right back where there is a bit of question with Bellerin just arriving and Roberto having his own abilities in the defence part of his game. So we will see Jules Kounde at right back and at left back the same question remains with Alba falling down the pecking order and Alonso just arriving at the club. We might see Xavi’s go-to guy Alex Bade at left-back.
At centre back, Ronald Araujo is a certainty to start but alongside there will be a toss-up between Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen. Looking at Bayern players’ style of play and build, we feel Christensen might get the nod to partner Araujo.
In midfield, there aren’t many selection issues. Sergio Busquets and Pedri will certainly start in this big game. Coming into that third spot in midfield we have 3 contenders all having proven their worth. It will be a tough choice for Xavi to choose between Gavi, Kessie, and De Jong. But after looking at the magnitude of the game and what impact these 3 have had on Barca’s overall game. We feel the dutchmen Frenkie De Jong will get the nod as that third midfielder.
Coming into the attack front where Barcelona has abundant options to choose from. But looking at Xavi Hernandez’s line-ups so far we see 2 clear-cut options who will start. Firstly Robert Lewandowski who is returning to his former club is set to start. Along with him Dembele looking at his form and impact on the overall game he too will start. Now coming into that 3rd attacker it will depend on what structure Xavi wants his team to set up.
If Xavi wants to play on the counter along with width on both sides of the pitch then Brazilian Raphinha will get the nod. But if he wants an inverted winger who can drop deep and play second forward behind no. 9 Then Ansu Fati will get the nod. But when it comes to a choice between Raphinha and Ansu Fati we feel Raphinha will be preferred.
Coming into Bayern they look like they are finding it difficult to cope with the loss of their biggest player Robert Lewandowski. They have had 3 back to back draws and aren’t at top of the Bundesliga table like they always used to be.
In goal, it’s obviously going to be Germany’s no.1 keeper Manuel Neuer in goal. Coming to defence Alphonso Davies will surely start in that left-back role along with Pavard as the right-back. At the heart of Bayern’s defence, looking at Barcelona’s attack, we feel the duo of Matthijs De Ligt and Upamecano will start.
In that holding midfield spot, Kimmich alongside Sabitzer will start considering the fact that he was rested for the weekend clash against Stuttgart. Now coming onto that third midfielder /CAM there is no doubt that Bayern’s go-to guy for this season Thomas Muller will start.
In attack, Coman was injured and ruled out this game. We will see the duo of Sane and Gnabry start on either wing. In that centre-forward role, Bayern Munich’s new signing and replacement of Lewandowski will start. That player is none other than Bayern star signing from Liverpool Sadio Mane.
