Premier Futsal Day 1: Kolkata Beat Goa 4-2, Mumbai Beat Chennai 4-2

Premier Futsal has been the talk of the town since a lot of days in India now, mainly due to the fact that greats like Ryan Giggs, Ronaldinho and Paul Scholes are participating in it, with Indian Cricket hero Virat Kohli and Portugal legend Luis Figo being the brand ambassadors of the competition. A fast paced shorter version of football, Futsal, uses a small court rather than a normal pitch and has only 5 players a side, which results in extremely quick end to end games with plenty of skill moves and a display of  excellent ball control. So how was the first day of the event such greatly anticipated?
The first match of the night was Mumbai, captained by Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, against Chennai led by Futsal star Falcao. Mumbai went off to a very comfortable start, scoring 4 goals, one of which was a belter from Kevin Ramirez. Chennai scored 2 back thanks to Falcao’s brilliant overhead kick and Filho’s shot, but we’re unable to win the match. Ryan Giggs was greatly cheered by the fans whenever he was on the ball, and put up a great show of skillsin the match for them to see. He also had some very good words to say for the country and the fans in the post match interview. Announcement of Premier Futsal league in Mumbai
In the second match, Argentine Hernan Crespo’s Kolkata side was victorious against a really talented Goa side. Despite the loss, it was Goa captain, the great Ronaldinho, who stole the show with his presence alone. He received massive cheers throughout the match, with fans chanting his name and the Brazilian trickster did not disappoint the audience, though the result was not in his team’s favour.
As it has been famously said, India is a sleeping football giant, such events are a massive boost to the footballing fans in the country. Seeing the game’s legends come here and play is a dream come true for many fans in India and a source of inspiration for countless aspiring young football players. Also, many young Indian players are a part of the teams, because of which they will learn a lot of things, and will eventually play a part in making football more famous and recognized in India.
This is just day 1 of the tournament and hopefully there is some mesmerizing action to follow in the upcoming days, as the players enjoy themselves too, like the crowds are.
