Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool are in the hunt for Stoke City star Jack Butland after the Englishman claimed that he wants a move away from the Bet 365 Stadium.
The trio of Premier League clubs is looking to cement a top 4 spot this season which is currently up for grabs. A similar issue binds these clubs together at the moment in the keeping department and with a shortage of high-quality goalkeepers in England; Butland could well be the next big thing between the sticks next season.
Chelsea could be losing Thibaut Courtois to European champions Real Madrid in the summer with the Belgian close to reuniting with his family in Spain next season. Petr Cech of Arsenal, is now 35 years of age and the former Chelsea man is losing his sharpness with every passing week and it’s visible to the fans.
Liverpool too has been unable to fix their issues in the last form of defense with Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet failing to impress the Anfield faithful.
Jack Butland is a highly rated keeper but wants a move away from Stoke City, who currently lie 19th in the Premier League table and are battling relegation this season. But Butland is keen on a move away from the Potters next season and there are many top-flight clubs in England who would be willing to snap up the 24-year-old.
Butland has a very strong chance of being the number one candidate between the posts for his national side in the FIFA World Cup during the summer. And one impressive tournament on the grandest stage of all could light up Butland’s career moving forward. The Potters are currently valuing Butland to be around £40 million, which could see him become the most expensive keeper in transfer history.
A tough one, with interesting clubs in the race for a young keeper, although Liverpool is currently the front-runners in the hunt for Butland. But it will be unfair to judge a keeper based on just one major football tournament, he may also have to suit a club’s philosophy.
