Chelsea suffered their worst defeat in over 25 years as they were absolutely battered 6-0 by a relentless Manchester City side at the Etihad stadium
The defeat was so heavy that Chelsea dropped 2 places from the 4th position to the 6th position. Manchester United currently occupy the 4th spot with 51 points from 26 games. Chelsea’s city rivals Arsenal are tied with them on 50 points, but edge ahead because of a superior goal difference. Chelsea’s away form has been disastrous lately. The Blues have failed to win any of their last 5 away games across all competitions.
Moreover, they have lost all 4 of their previous away games. The Blues have not managed to score a single goal in the last 5 away games. The Blues have conceded 13 goals in their last 4 away games, 10 of which have come in their 2 games against AFC Bournemouth and Manchester city. The Blues look like a completely different side when they are not playing at the Stamford Bridge. Ian Wright also expressed serious concern over the tactics of Maurizio Sarri,
“I am not sure if i feel sorry for him simply because the way Maurizio Sarri plays is exactly how he’s playing now, but this is what he does,” Wright told the Football Daily podcast.”
“He doesn’t rotate to often, he plays the same players the way they are playing. It’s how he played at Napoli.
“I read something about [Aurelio] De Laurentiis – his old boss – saying he plays the same players to the point where they are exhausted.
“They are tired, they are out of energy. I just think that this team, he hasn’t got enough time to do what he needs to do with them.
“To try and get the players to understand what he’s doing in the time he’s got to do it with the amount of games that are coming up I think it’s probably hit him like tonne of bricks, really.
Sarri needs to understand the fact the Premier league is very different from the Serie A. Hence, the same tactics may not work here. Also, he needs to change something fast as Chelsea’s owners aren’t known to be the most patient lot.
