Manchester United manager believes that Real Madrid’s top target will not leave the club next summer despite serious rumors of a potential move.
The Red Devil star has been a mainstay in the team since his arrival and has gone on to become one of the most important players in Jose Mourinho’s teamsheet. However, now with intense rumors that Real Madrid is very very serious about bringing him to the club, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has asked his former club to look anywhere but at David De Gea.
The Spaniard has been the Red Devils’ savior more than once, making crucial saves and blocks to allow Jose Mourinho’s men to sit second behind league leaders Manchester City. The 27-year-old has been at Old Trafford since 2011, despite being linked multiple times with a move away, with Real Madrid very interested in his services. However, despite a move between Manchester United and Los Blancos falling through in 2015, David De Gea could now make a move next summer and Jose Mourinho has finally answered the rumors.
In an interview before Manchester United’s Champions League clash against Sevilla, Mourinho went on to say, “I think he will stay,” Mourinho said. “I don’t know what Real Madrid’s intentions are, but if I were them, I would think of another player. A goalkeeper like he is and obviously a club that wants to be better and better and better, we are not going to let that year option go away.
But obviously, we are going to try [for a new deal]. Mr [Ed] Woodward is not on holiday. He barely has holidays. Of course he’s going to try to give him a contract that keeps him here for much longer than that option that of course we are going to execute.”
I have literally run out of words to describe David de Gea. It’s getting to the stage where he has to be seriously considered as our greatest ever goalkeeper. Unreal. #mufc [@mufcgif] pic.twitter.com/YDyO37wjK3

However, with Real Madrid really looking to revamp their team, in light of recent events which see the Los Blancos sit third in the league and a massive 16 points behind league leaders Barcelona. This has seen manager Zinedine Zidane and president Florentino Perez target a few areas that they need to bring in world-class talents, and that includes a brand new goal-keeper.
Real Madrid has also targeted the likes of Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois and Hajduk Split’s Karlo Leticia as alternatives for the Spaniard.
With David De Gea regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, it will be beyond difficult for Mourinho to replace the Spaniard, even if they bring in a replacement. And Jose Mourinho knows that, which is why Jose Mourinho has made it clear to anybody after him. Experience is something that cannot be replicated and the 27-year-old has that in spades, having made 285 appearances for the club.
