The January transfer window is slowly, and finally, hotting up what with the usual suspects stepping up their efforts to source the necessary players who will be essential components for the remainder of the season. United target going nowhere?
Porto’s Eder Militao, who has been an in-demand name this month, is not going anywhere in January, as per his agent. The highly-rated Brazilian, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Real Madrid, apparently even reached a verbal agreement with Real as per reports on Thursday. But Spanish website AS has put to bed any such stories, stating that the La Liga club are still only deciding whether to pay the defender’s buyout clause of €50m before the end of January.
That clause will rise by 50% to €75m if not activated by January 31, which could force interested parties, including United, to act fast. But Militao’s agent quashed any transfer hopes for clubs, confirming to the Spanish press that the 21-year-old will remain in Portugal this transfer window. “There is no possibility of the player leaving his current club in the winter market,” Giuliano Bertolucci told AS.
