PSG chase after a brand new manager, with reports that they will part ways with Unai Emery soon and are looking towards a Premier League manager to replace him.
Paris Saint Germain have started talks with Antonio Conte’s representatives in an attempt to get the Italian after some disappointing performances recently. It’s almost certain that the French giants will part ways with Unai Emery after this season when his contract expires and Conte is one of the four potential manager to replace Emery, others being Jose Mourinho, Diego Simeone and Massimiliano Allegri.
Antonio Conte lead the Blues to an unlikely Premier League victory in his first season
Mourinho’s termination with Manchester United seems unlikely despite their loss from Sevilla in the Champions League. Simeone and Allegri will also be difficult to obtain from their respective clubs. Mauricio Pochettino was also linked earlier but no contact has been with him till now. Therefore approaching Conte first was the best knowing that the Chelsea manager is frustrated with the side and seems to be looking for new challenges.
He may have an option with a move to the national side of Italy but it looks like he’d remain in club football for some time. The Chelsea board is set to discuss Conte’s future next month. PSG would like to offer Conte a small increase in salary and initial talks were positive. They still have not made any formal approach and are considering their options now.
Conte earns € 9.5m a season working with Chelsea and PSG are willing to offer € 10m a year to their new manager. Emery’s performance not up to the mark with PSG unlike his performance with Sevilla, whom he led to win an unprecedented third Europa League. In both the seasons with Emery by their side, PSG underperformed, losing to Barcelona 4-0 and Real Madrid 5-2 in the pre-quarters of the Champions League despite having stars like Cavani and Neymar.
They are in desperate need of changes in fortunes and the move towards Conte could be the first step towards it.
Author’s Take :
Both PSG and Conte are looking for changes with performances below satisfactory this season so it would be good to see both coming together. Conte has been one manager who can extract the best of each player from his side and if he could do that with PSG, it could lead them to glory.
