PSG news: Lionel Messi has joined the Parisians after leaving Barcelona during the summer transfer window of 2021. The Argentina international has struggled during his debut season at Parc des Princes, scoring just three goals in 26 league appearances.
However, he has returned to form this season, registering three goals and seven assists in seven league appearances. He also scored one goal and assisted one more in two UEFA Champions League games.
Nevertheless, Messi is currently in the final year of his current contract at the club. The Paris outfit are keen to extend his stay but Messi will only decide his future after the FIFA World Cup.
The 35-year-old attacker has been linked with a move back to Barcelona in recent weeks. MLS club LA Galaxy have also shown interest in signing the Argentina international.
PSG News: Luis Campos provides an update on Lionel Messi’s future
Paris St. Germain’s sporting director Luis Campos opens up on Lionel Messi’s future at the Parc des Princes. He also revealed he recently held talks with the superstar over a possible contract extension.
Speaking to RMC( via Fabrizio Romano), Campos said: “I asked Messi if he wanted to stay and I told him that I hope that he will stay here during my tenure here [3 years]. I’m very satisfied with Leo”.
Barcelona President makes comments on Messi’s return to Camp Nou
The Blaugrana president Joan Laporta wants the Argentina international to end his career at Camp Nou. He said: “I feel indebted to Leo Messi. I would like him to end his career in a Barca shirt, and be applauded at all the stadiums.
Messi spent 17 years as a professional footballer at Camp Nou between 2004 and 2021. He played 520 league games during his time in Spain, scoring 474 goals in the process.
The 35-year-old attacker helped the Blaugrana win more than 30 major trophies, including 10 La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League trophies. Messi also won six Ballon d’Or titles and eight Pichichi awards whilst at the Camp Nou.
The Paris outfit has started the 2022-23 season brilliantly and are currently at the top of the Ligue 1 table. They have won six of their opening seven games in the league. PSG will next lock horns against Lyon and Nice in the league before making a trip to Portugal to play Benfica in the UEFA Champions League on October 6. Messi is likely to feature in all games.
