PSG News: PSG President Criticises Real Madrid for Champions League Celebrations

PSG News: Paris Saint Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has taken a dig at Los Blancos for the Champions League-winning celebration even after proposing a European Super League.

While he was speaking at the 28th General Assembly of the European Club Association, The PSG president was criticising Real Madrid‘s stand. Despite the threat of sanctions from UEFA, Madrid, along with Barca and Juve are still supporting the European Super League. In the end, nine of the original 12 founding clubs withdrew their names from the project in October 2021.

A feud between Madrid and PSG is going on for a long time. It all started when Real wanted to sign Neymar from PSG on a cut-price deal.

The club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was not ready to let go of the world’s most expensive player at that time.

During the 28th General Assembly of the ECA(European Club Association), the president, Nasser al-Khelaïfi did not miss his opportunity to attack the most Champions League-winning team in the History of World Football.

According to Foot Mercato, he told: “It’s strange that Real Madrid is celebrating winning the Champions League. It’s very strange that you go against the competition, but participate and celebrate having won the title. I think it’s very weird, to be honest. But we are not going to waste time on this and we are going to continue to work.”

The PSG hierarchy is not impressed by the brilliant display of Real Madrid’s Champions League journey of the last season. The Paris club also used their full might to keep their superstar Mbappe at the club.   

The president of ECA and PSG, Al-Khelaifi, accused Real Madrid of being double-faced and slammed the Spanish club’s “infamous” Super League project.

Last year, Los Blancos broke the heart of PSG by defeating them in aggregate with a 3-2 scoreline in the Champions League Round of 16. After spending heavily in the transfer market, PSG is desperate to dominate in Europe by winning the Champions League. Whereas Real Madrid has won the Cup 14 times, which is twice as many times as any other club in the history of the competition.

In April 2021, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus with the joint effort of the other big European clubs from Spain, England, and Italy launched a private competition project for the elite clubs of Europe. It was called the Super League. Bayern, Dortmund, and PSG refused to join them.

In October 2021, most clubs left the project due to fan protests and threats from UEFA. Real, Barca, and Juve are still part of this project. Florentino Perez and Andrea Agnelli are still looking for another push.

Real Madrid will play against Osasuna in La Liga after the international break.

In Ligue 1, PSG will face Nice on their home ground.
