PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot is all set to rebuff a bunch of mega clubs like Barcelona and Liverpool to sign a new deal at PSG
PSG star Adrien Rabiot was all set to leave the Parisian side in either January or next summer due to his contract expire this summer. And since the last couple of months, Rabiot had been in talks with PSG as well as some of the elite European clubs like Barcelona, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City
According to reports, the reason for Rabiot to leave PSG was finance and that he was unhappy with his playing time there. Also Rabiot’s mother was negotiating the deal for her son, as she is one of his agents, and was demanding a huge sign-on fee.
However, PSG’s is abundant in terms of finances, and hence this might not be an issue in the later part. Barcelona seemed confident of a deal taking place, and the exit of Rabiot seemed unavoidable. Liverpool even was involved in talks with Rabiot’s representatives, according to French football journalist Julien Laurens.
He explained,“ think it was quite positive. “I don’t think it’s the first time Rabiot’s men have talked with people from the club. The interest from Klopp is even pre-Liverpool and Liverpool since Klopp have always been there.”
However, according to Canal + journalist Olivier Tallaron, Rabiot is set to agree with a new three-year deal. “At this moment, only the duration of the new contract is pending,” he said.
Rabiot reportedly turned down three offers from PSG, whilst his manager Thomas Tuchel was keen to keep him. Last month, Tuchel explained that he still sees Rabiot as a key part of his plans. “I really like Adrien, really, I appreciate him,” he said. There was a difficult situation after the World Cup that he missed but Adrien has shown an incredible willingness from the first day of training.
“He has never missed a training session, not a single thing — we can really trust him and count on him. I love working with Adrien and I have no influence over the rest.”
The French midfielder, 23, has been widely tipped to move to Blaugrana in the summer transfer window but now appears certain to pen fresh terms with Paris Saint-Germain. New boss Thomas Tuchel has been insistent on Rabiot staying at the Parc des Princes and the Ligue 1 giants will now offer the star a new contract, given his current deal expires in 2019. Rabiot could now earn as much as €130,000-a-week, a significant increase on his current weekly salary
