Philippe Coutinho joined Fc Barcelona in the 2017-18 winter transfer window for a fee of £117 million
The Brazilian spent nearly six years at Liverpool before moving to Barcelona. He made 152 appearances for the Reds, scoring 42 times during that time. Coutinho seems to have settled to the new conditions and the atmosphere in almost no time. It’s like he always belonged there. The 26 year old has already scored 9 times in 21 appearances for the Blaugrana.
However, Ligue 1 giants PSG might have different intentions if Kylian Mbappe leaves them. As per reports, 19-year-old Kylian Mbappe is desperate to move to the Bernabeu and fill the void created by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. Kylian Mbappe joined the Parisians at the beginning of the 2017-18 season on loan. However, at the end of the season, he signed on a permanent basis. The total transfer fee hovers in the region of €180 million.
The young Frenchman had a brilliant season at the Parc de Princes. He scored 13 times and set up another 8 in 27 appearances. The Frenchman was exceptional at the 2018 Russia World Cup. He scored 4 times in 7 appearances for France. One of these goals was in the finals against Croatia, whereby he became only the second teenager after the legendary Pele to have scored in the World Cup Finals. That really speaks volumes about the quality and the potential of this teenager.
Earlier, it was being reported that Neymar Jr would have been the ideal replacement for Ronaldo. However, the meteoric rise of Kylian Mbappe has put him in the pole position ahead of teammate Neymar for the spot at the Bernabeu.
And PSG are wary of the consequences, should Mbappe decide to leave. They have apparently identified Philippe Coutinho as the replacement for Mbappe. However, if both the deals do go through, one thing is for sure; both teams would have to spend tonnes of money, potentially setting new transfer records.
Philippe Coutinho might be a very different kind of player from Mbappe, but there is absolutely no doubt about his quality. That being said, practically, it is very tough to imagine both of the deals going through as both the players have very recently joined their respective clubs.
