The sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League has finally resumed on June 9 in Abu Dhabi. Earlier, the tournament was postponed for an indefinite time owing to the coronavirus epidemic in March.
The match between Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans was the last match played on March 3. Gladiators won by 22 runs in Karachi. After three months, the match resumed on June 9 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
Since then four matches took place in the same venue. Earlier, PSL organizers confirmed that the rest of the tournament’s fixtures will kick off at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Meanwhile, during the fourth match of the second leg of PSL 6, an unexpected incident took place. The match between Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United witnessed a nasty incident.
Quetta Gladiators’ all-rounder Andre Russell who is playing his first match of PSL 2021 took a blow while batting. The Caribbean didn’t look comfortable at all after getting struck on the helmet.
The West Indies all-rounder came out to bat in the middle-order. As usual, he looked in dangerous touch with the bat. The strong man struck 2 powerful sixes and maintained a strike rate in excess of 200.
Naseem Shah replaces Andre Russell as concussion substitute
Andre Russell looked good for his 13 off 5 balls. However, Muhammad Musa found a way to dismiss the danger man in the last ball of the 16th over. The all-rounder batted didn’t last long after the blow.
Later, Naseem Shah replaced injured Andre Russell as concussion substitute at the innings break. However, the decision to replace Russell with Shah didn’t go well with Islamabad United.
Meanwhile, Islamabad’s captain Shadab Khan spoke to the umpire Aleem Dar before the second innings started. Russell was carried with a stretcher from the dressing room to an ambulance. The incident happened during the first over of the second innings.

As per the rules, concussed cricketer can be permitted to be replaced by a player outside the playing XI. Although Russell is a pace-bowling allrounder, Naseem is a specialist fast bowler. Meanwhile, the decision to let the fast bowler as a replacement was because Russell wouldn’t deliver his quota of 4 overs.
Naseem had a bad day at the office as he conceded 19 runs in the only over he bowled. He leaked as many as 4 boundaries. Earlier, Gladiators made 133 in the first innings. Weatherald top-scored with 43 off 35 including 3 fours and 2 sixes. On the other hand, Hasan Ali, Muhammad Musa, Mohammad Wasim Jr took 2 wickets apiece for Gladiators.
Colin Munro – Man of the Match
In reply, Islamabad United chased down the target in 10 overs and won the game by 10 wickets. Colin Munro and Usman Khawaja added a record 137-run partnership for the opening wicket. Munro top-scored with 90 off just 36 balls. His innings included as many as 12 fours and 5 sixes.
