PSL 2022: James Foster replaces Daren Sammy as chief coach of Peshawar Zalmi Franchise

PSL 2022: The seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) kick-started today as the Karachi Kings franchise locked horns with the Multan Sultans franchise at National Stadium in Karachi.

Multan Sultans opened their account with a victory in the first game. Meanwhile, in the latest development, Daren Sammy will not be a part of the Peshawar Zalmi franchise in the ongoing season.

James Foster has replaced the former West Indies captain as chief coach of the Peshawar Zalmi franchise. James Foster, who is already the assistant coach of the Peshwar Zalmi has been assigned as the head coach.

Former England wicketkeeper batter will be looking forward to bringing the best out of his teammates in the ongoing season. On the other hand, the Zalmi team management is in talks with Daren Sammy about his role extension as a mentor.

It has been understood that the former West Indies cricketer needed some time off the field due to personal reasons. In fact, he conveyed his sincere apology for his late pullout due to personal commitments.

Notably, he has been one of the pillars of the franchise since the inception of the Pakistan Super League. He plied his trade as the vice-captain before serving as the captain following Shahid Afridi’s exit in 2017.

Later on, Wahab Riaz replaced Daren Sammy as the full-time skipper midway through the PSL 2020 season. Since then, Sammy took over as the head coach of the Zalmi franchise.

For the unversed, the veteran cricketer Sammy is currently plying his trade for World Giants in the Legends League Cricket in Oman. The 38-year-old experienced campaigner is yet to call it quits from professional cricket.

On the other hand, Forster has already gained formidable experience in several franchise-based T20 leagues. This includes the likes of the Indian Premier League, Big Bash League, Caribbean Premier League and Bangladesh Premier League.

The PSL 7 is set to kick off at two camps as the extravaganza will move from Karachi to Lahore. At first, Karachi will host the first 15 fixtures. After that, Lahore will host the rest of the 15 games and 4 playoffs.
