Arsenal young defender William Saliba is in talks with the club over leaving on loan next month. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that the 19-year-old defender will not play any part for the Arsenal football club this season.
The teenager who is not yet named in the matchday squad is expected to move on loan to France in January. A lot was expected from the £28million signing from Saint Etienne but as it turned out, he didn’t get enough chances to play.
The young defender has been restricted to game appearances for the Under-23’s this season. Above all, he had some personal issues earlier on in the season. Saliba also didn’t play against Manchester City in the EFL Cup quarter-final clash.
Mikel Arteta was asked why the Arsenal defender was not involved in the team set up against Man City. To which, Arteta gave a reasonable explanation. While addressing the reporters at the post-match press conference after a 1-4 loss against Man City, Arteta said Saliba didn’t play because he is not in the squad.
“He cannot be involved because he’s not in the squad,” Arteta said. “We made that decision with him and we’ll see what we’re going to do in January. We are talking about it [loan move] yes,” the manager added.
However, it seems that a potential loan move next month could make sense for both the club and the defender. Saliba is also interested to go on loan and return to the club with a strong mindset and determination.
PSV Eindhoven make enquiry for Arsenal defender Saliba
As the January transfer window is just around the corner, PSV Eindhoven made an inquiry for a £28m Arsenal defender. Saliba has attracted interest from the Netherlands club ahead of the transfer window as per a report from Football London.
It is quite complicated and tough to see the youngster staying in North London beyond next month. He is still waiting for a chance to make his senior debut for the Arsenal Football Club. He played warm-up games earlier but is yet to be involved in senior’s set-up.
A report in Football London states that clubs German, Italian, and Spanish clubs are currently watching the young prospect. Now the report goes on to add stating that PSV is monitoring the £28 million defenders and has also made an inquiry.
PSV move is the right choice for William Saliba
The £28 million teenagers didn’t get an opportunity to play in the first team. For now, the youngster should be involved in more games as it is good for him and for Arsenal. The club decided it is better he would go on loan.
PSV Eindhoven’s loan move could surely help retrieve Saliba’s confidence levels. Roger Schmidt’s PSV are currently second in the points table. They are just a point below Ajax. Saliba had already showcased his mettle during his loan spell in Ligue 1 last year.
Without second thoughts, the Eredivisie league has the same level of competition as that of France’s top flight. Joining PSV may help Saliba get proper game time and he has a great chance to gain the lost confidence which he lost in the past few months.
