We have a look at the qualification scenarios of five teams to take the remaining two spots for the playoffs
We have reached the business end of the IPL 2018. Until now, only Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings have qualified for the playoffs. With only 5 league matches remaining before the playoffs, we have a look at the qualification scenarios of various teams to take up the remaining two spots.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR):
KKR have been good on their days. Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik have been the performers for them this season. As a lot is on stake now, the entire team needs to fire. Someone like a Lynn has to do what he is known for as there might not be anymore chances for him in the IPL.

KKR have their last match against the Sunrisers on Saturday. They have to win the match to qualify. If they lose, they will have to depend on Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab to lose their respective games.
Mumbai Indians (MI):
MI started the 2018 season very poorly with only 1 win in their first 6 games. Like most years, they picked up just when it was most required. MI have been phenomenal in their last 5 games winning 4 of them. They have played very good cricket but the result has not quite come their way.

But that will be very crucial if they have to be in the playoffs. Their last game is against DD, who are at the bottom of the table. If MI win, they will qualify because of their excellent NRR.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB):
Like MI, they were almost down and out of the IPL season. The team suddenly was freed from the expectations of their fans and that proved very helpful to them. The team is playing their cricket with absolute freedom and is ready to take on very team in its way.

They have won their last 3 matches and now need to beat the Rajasthan Royals in their last game in order to qualify for the playoffs. If they lose, it is the end of the season for them. They face the Royals on Saturday.
Rajasthan Royals (RR):
RR has a stop start season this year. Jos Buttler won them the crucial two games and now has flown back to England. The out-of-form all-rounder Ben Stokes, who played all their matches has flown back too. They will need to make two big changes and that might just prove lucky for them.

They play their last match against RCB on Saturday. They will have to win that and then depend on DD to beat MI. RR have a good NRR that will help them to go above Kings XI on the points table.
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP):
KXIP have been heavily dependent on Gayle, Andrew Tye and specially KL Rahul. If their opening duo fails, the match is almost over for KXIP. This is not what a team can qualify for the playoffs with. If they have to be in the top 4, the entire squad needs to be on the top of their game and let Rahul relax a bit now.

They play their last game against Chennai Super Kings. To qualify, KXIP need to win it by a huge margin and hope that RR beat RCB and DD beat MI. The stars have to really align for them to play the knockouts.
