Rashford persuading Pogba to stay at Man United following Varane deal

Man United forward Marcus Rashford is one of the big stars at the club, hoping that the pending arrival of Raphael Varane could persuade Paul Pogba to extend his stay at Old Trafford. Pogba’s current deal expires at the end of this season, at which point he will become a free agent.

So far, Pogba has refused to sign an extension with United. This could mean that the club might sell him for the right price. The likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Juventus have been closely monitoring the Frenchman’s stance.

However, with four-time Champions League winner Raphael Varane set to join United from Real Madrid, a number of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ‘big guns’, including Rashford, are now persuading Pogba to stay put at Old Trafford.

Rashford among Man United stars convincing Pogba to stay at Old Trafford?

According to reports from The Sun, Marcus Rashford and some of his United teammates are hoping that Pogba stays at Old Trafford. Sources claim that many United stars see Pogba as a “genuine world-class talent among the squad”.

The players also view Pogba as a leader, who is looked up to by the younger members of the squad. Furthermore, some key United players are hoping that Raphael Varane’s arrival at the club might lead to Pogba signing a new deal.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Varane will join Man United before the start of the 2021-22 campaign. The French defender, who will leave Real Madrid, will cost the Red Devils around £41 million including add-ons.

Varane won 18 trophies in total with Real Madrid during his 10-year stay at the club. United will be hoping that the Frenchman’s signing will persuade his compatriot Pogba also to sign a new deal.

Pogba’s contract expires in the summer of 2022, leaving Manchester United with a dilemma if he doesn’t agree a new deal. Hence, United would likely have to sell the 28-year-old in the current transfer window to make some kind of profit.

More so, United will be hoping that the £73 million capture of England winger Jadon Sancho from Dortmund also serves as a potential to persuade Pogba to stay at the club.

Paul Pogba honours and titles and career at Man United

Paul Pogba could be sold by Man United this summer.

Pogba first left Man United in 2012 and joined Juventus, where he won four Serie A titles with the Old Lady. He then returned to Old Trafford in 2016 for a then world-record £89 million fee.

However, Pogba’s second stint at United has been filled with ups and downs. The midfielder has helped United win the Europa League and League Cup but hasn’t lived up to his hefty price tag.

Last season, Pogba made a total of 42 appearances for Man United, scoring six goals and adding 10 assists. Although United reached the final of the Europa League, Solskjaer’s side suffered defeat against Villarreal in penalties.

Man United finished second on the league table last term, 12 points behind eventual champions Man City. Solskjaer’s side will be hoping to seriously challenge for the title this season.
