Chennai Super Kings failed to qualify for the IPL 2020 playoffs under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. For the first time in history, they failed to make it into the top four. They finished 7th in the points table last season in the United Arab Emirates.
The three-time IPL champions locked horns with Delhi Capitals in their opening fixture at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The yellow brigade started their journey with a bitter defeat at the hands of Rishabh Pant-led Capitals.
Rishabh Pant who is leading the team in absence of regular captain Shreyas Iyer led the team ever so well. CSK set up a massive target of 189. But, Delhi Capitals chased down the target with 8 balls to spare.
The IPL 2020 runners-up won the game by 7 wickets. Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 85 off 54 balls whereas Prithvi Shaw scored 72 off 38 balls. On the other hand, Suresh Raina made a spectacular comeback with a half-century for CSK.
Shikhar Dhawan was named the man of the match for his innings. The southpaw smashed a flurry of 10 boundaries and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 157.4. Prithvi Shaw also played quite well. The youngster hit 9 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 189.5.
Jadeja demands MS Dhoni wicket in nets
Recently, a video doing rounds on the internet shows how Ravindra Jadeja demanded MS Dhoni’s wicket in the training session. This incident took place ahead of the start of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League.
The video features the likes of all-rounder Jadeja and CSK captain Dhoni. According to the video clip, Jadeja can be seen bowling really well to the CSK skipper. Meanwhile, Jadeja gets the better of Dhoni in the session.

The left-arm spinner deceived MS Dhoni with a tricky delivery as the ball beat the skipper and went on to hit his pads. Meanwhile, the CSK all-rounder demanded MS Dhoni’s wicket forcefully just for fun.
The video clip has gone viral on social media platforms. Talking about CSK’s first game, apart from Suresh Raina, Moeen Ali scored 36 whereas Sam Curran scored 34. MS Dhoni failed to deliver the goods in the first game.
The skipper got out for a duck in the second ball as he was dismissed by Avesh Khan. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja played a few shots and scored 26 off 17 balls. His innings included three boundaries.
CSK to take on Punjab Kings
Chennai Super Kings might have lost their first game but still they have a lot of time to bounce back. The yellow army will lock horns with Punjab Kings in the second fixture on April 16, Friday.
The match will kick off at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Before that, Punjab Kings will begin their IPL campaign today by taking on Rajasthan Royals. The match is expected to go all guns blazing in Mumbai.
