RB Leipzig News: Max Eberl has become the new sporting director of RB Leipzig, after serving the same role at Borussia Mönchengladbach for over a decade.
But his tenure will start on 15th December 2022. The 48-year-old has signed a long-term contract with Leipzig.
Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintlaff confirmed Max Eberl joining his club, as he said: “We’ve been in talks for a while, but always with respect for his personal situation. We’re looking forward to starting work together in December.”
A reaction from Eberl also came after joining the German club, as he said: “I’m really happy to make my move to Leipzig public”. He is “grateful” to his new club, as they have given him some time until December.
Eberl also praised Leipzig’s footballing philosophy, ambitions, and rapid progress.
According to reports, DFB Cup winners will pay 2.5 million euros for Eberl, who was maintaining the sporting activities at Borussia Monchengladbach from 2008 to early 2022.
The former German U21 international worked for Gladbach 8,428-day-and-14-hour. He resigned from his post at the end of this year’s January. Over 23 years, he made big decisions to make the Rhineland club one of the best German clubs.
Eberl played for Bayern Munich, Bochum, and Greuther Furth and hung up his boots at Borussia Monchengladbach. After retirement, he took over the role of coordinator of his club’s youth academy in 2005.
He was promoted to the role of Sporting Director in 2008. Under his tenure, the Bundesliga‘s some of the best talents came out from their club. This includes names like Marco Reus, Juan Arango, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Granit Xhaka, and so on.
Eberl’s role was not limited there, as he helped his club maintain its status as an established Bundesliga club.
After his promotion, Gladbach was able to obtain 52 points on average every season. But the average was 39 in the previous seasons. Gladbach also played in the UEFA Champions League four times in his time at the club. They were able to reach the group stage three times.
In the 2020-21 season, they reached the last 16 of the competition from a group of death which had teams like Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and Shakhtar Donetsk.
The German sporting director also recalled his conversation with Hans Meyer about signing Marco Reus. He spoke: “I was totally convinced by Marco. My gut told me that we would buy potential here”.
As Max Eberl’s arrival is officially confirmed on RB Leipzig’s Twitter post, Chelsea is also near to signing Red Bull Salzburg director Christoph Freund for Todd Boehly’s new Chelsea project.
