There is a vacancy at Real Madrid in the managerial position. The Whites have a few names in mind and have now added a Portuguese boss in their shortlist to fill up the role.
Real Madrid sacked Julen Lopetegui last Monday and appointed Santiago Solari as the caretaking coach of the club. The Whites are yet to appoint a permanent manager at the helm and have to do so within the next week or so. It has been speculated that Solari could stick to the job permanently and Real Madrid would be ready to rely on him, however, his experience is casting a doubt.
Antonio Conte and Roberto Martinez have been the two earliest and biggest names linked with a move to the Spanish capital. While the talks with the former Chelsea boss reportedly broke down, the Belgium boss has not yet been formally approached by the European champions. But there is a new person who is in candidacy for the hot seat.
That is former Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim. He was relieved of his duties a few weeks ago after leaving the Ligue 1 giants in the relegation zone in France. But to be fair on his part, the club sold all of his core players such as Kylian Mbappe, Thomas Lemar, Benjamin Mendy and Tiemoue Bakayoko, who formed an integral part of Jardim’s squad that beat Paris Saint-Germain to the league in 2016/17.
In addition to his magnificent achievements in Monte Carlo, Jardim has also been credited with the development of young talents, especially in Kylian Mbappe, and also with taking a team like AS Monaco to the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League in the 2016/2017 campaign.
Jardim will certainly be a great addition for the Whites. His fluid and reliable style of football will benefit them and he can also get the best out of youngsters by giving them chances, especially Vinicius Junior. He is currently looking for a green pasture to continue his managerial career and there’d be no better space than Real Madrid.
