Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui will certainly get the boot in the next few weeks with how things are going. Here’s a list of the five men who Perez has shortlisted.
Real Madrid are in a critical situation. The Whites have gone matches without a win and lost their third match running after the loss versus Levante by a 2-1 margin on Saturday afternoon. Correctly so, Julen Lopetegui’s future has come under scrutiny and he can be kicked out of the club anytime now.
The former Spain coach has lost five matches already since signing for Real Madrid in June as Zinedine Zidane’s replacement. His sacking is imminent and only a matter of time. The time frame is so uncertain that Madrid might even have a new manager in the helm by their Champions League match on Tuesday against Viktoria Plzen.
Florentino Perez has already begun shortlisting the 52 year old’s replacements and it has been reported that former Real Madrid player Santiago Solari leads the five names. He is currently training the Real Madrid Castilla side that is doing well in second place in the first group of Segunda Division B, the third tier of Spanish football.
Antonio Conte is the other name whose name is on the list. The former Italy and Chelsea boss is not with any club after being sacked by the Blues in July. He is a strong candidate while ex-Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc is also a man in contention for the role. Belgium’s Roberto Martinez and Michael Laudrup are the other surprising names.
While Santiago Solari has been doing brilliantly with Real Madrid Castilla, the European champions cannot afford to take any risks with yet another manager. The best is for them to get someone like Antonio Conte at the helm. The Italian has the experience, drive and the tactical mentality to get the best out of Real Madrid.
