Real Madrid: Manager and players defend Sergio Ramos from doping claims

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has recently hit the news after German media and in particular, Football Leaks, claimed that he was involved in a doping scenario on two occasions.
Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has lately been accused of failing an anti-doping test by Germany based Football Leaks. The Spain international was rumored to have failed the test after the UEFA Champions League Final in 2017 and bribing the officials to let him go, whereas he was also assumed to have taken a non-allowed shower after Real Madrid’s win in Malaga earlier this year.
However, Sergio Ramos stood true to his words and vehemently denied claims of anything related to using drugs. His legal team is planning action against Football Leaks whereas Real Madrid, UEFA and the WADA all released official statements questioning the transparency of the reports which emerged last week.

The Whites’ manager Santiago Solari has now jumped to Ramos’ rescue and insisted that the entire team is giving him support.
“[Ramos] is an honest man and a symbol of football, Real Madrid and Spanish sport,” Solari told reporters ahead of his side’s Champions League clash against Roma. “It is the duty of all of us to protect him, from the media too. Journalists should seek the truth and they also have their opinions, but the truth is not open to opinion and even less so when a player’s name is being tainted. When that happens we lose our way and society is left helpless. It affects us all.”
Santiago Solari’s Real Madrid side was embarrassed in La Liga Santander by Eibar over the last weekend and they are looking to react after the humbling with a success in the UEFA Champions League at a ground where Roma are undefeated since February 2016 across European competitions.
Author’s Take
Sergio Ramos will be vital for the Whites in their outing against the Italian giants and will be tasked with keeping the physically adept Edin Dzeko at bay. The Whites’ captain will have the onus to do well given the claims that have been put forward against him. Personally, I feel that Football Leaks is just another irrelevant and nonsense source trying to get attention by falsely claiming stuff.
