Los Blancos superstar Marcelo has mocked fierce rivals Barcelona after Real Madrid’s triumph in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Real Madrid was given a massive scare last night when Juventus scored three away goals in an hour to level up the Champions League quarter-final score on aggregate. However late drama resulted in the home side being awarded a penalty and Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon being sent off deep into stoppage time. Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to take the spot-kick and put his side through to the semi-finals of the competition with the holders of the Cup, winning the tie 4-3 on aggregate.
Marcelo snubbed Messi when it came to the toughest payer he has faced
A couple nights ago, Barcelona traveled to the Italian capital Rome carrying a 4-1 advantage into the second leg. But the La Liga giants crashed out of the competition against an unbelievable AS Roma side that scored three goals to overturn the deficit and enter the last four of the tournament on away the away goal rule. And Real Madrid defender took a sly dig at Barcelona’s expense, who are 15 points ahead of Real Madrid in the League, after making it to the next round.
Marcelo Adds Insult to Injury For Barcelona –
Marcelo, who was captain on the night for suspended Sergio Rams wasted no time in taking a dig at the Catalonian club after their stunning collapse. Post the Juventus game, the Brazilian left-back reminded Barcelona of their humiliation and stated,” We should face and we did everything possible to go through, What happened to Barcelona wasn’t going to happen to us because we’re Real Madrid.”
Real Madrid will either face Bayern Munich, Liverpool or AS Roma in the Semi-finals of the Champions League as the Spanish champions look to defend their title for a record third consecutive season.
Barcelona is still winning the La Liga in a few weeks’ time and is still in the Copa Del Rey final but the Champions League is more prestigious. However, it’s still too early for Marcelo to mock their fierce rivals because Madrid could end up trophyless at the end of the campaign while Barcelona could manage to win two. It goes to show the extent of the rivalry between the two clubs, and the desperation to mock one another.
