Despite being linked with several clubs in the summer, the forward ended up staying at Bernabeu.
Asensio was one of the hottest prospects in La Liga. The Spanish forward joined Los Blancos in 2014 and often came from the Bench when Marid had some of the World’s greatest players in their squad.
The winger has less than four months remaining to be free to talk to any other club to sign a pre-contract deal out of the Spanish League. His contract will expire with his current club in the summer of 2023.
Real Madrid News: Asensio’s Comments on His Future
While talking to El Partidazo de COPE, Asensio gave a brief detail about his contract situation, he spoke: “I had chances to leave, yes – now signing a new deal with Real Madrid doesn’t depend on me, as there are many factors”.
After scouting him, Real Madrid signed him for a €3.9 million fee in 2014, and the player signed a six-year-long deal with the club. For his development, Madrid let him go on two loan moves to Mallorca and Espanyol from 2014 to 2016.
Asensio has the excellent passing ability and long-range shooting ability. His versatility makes him a better player as he can play in both wings and sometimes shifts his position behind the striker to contribute as a playmaker.
But things are not the same for him in this new Madrid squad. After his ACL injury which sidelined him for a year, Madrid replaced his Right Wing position with Rodrygo.
Under Ancelotti, Valverde has become a more prominent player in the right-wing part.
This explains more about Asensio’s “many factors” he mentioned in his interview. As his game time has become very limited so do his Spain national team chances.
About his possibility of staying at Santiago Bernabeu, Asensio revealed: “I hope it will happen, I’ve always been happy here”.
On His Link to Premier League and Barca
In the summer, several rumours about his possible next club came in. There were several interests from the Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Spurs. Arsenal is in the market for a right-wing position and Asensio fits the slot for Arteta.
But Asensio has a history with a mystery club in the Premier League. Once, Asensio’s agent Horacio Gaggioli confirmed bids while talking to Cadena SER in 2018. He spoke: “Madrid have received two offers for Marco Asensio, up to €150m, but the club rejected them. You can imagine that they come from England”.
The Spaniard also addressed that rumours are normal for him, as he can sign as a free agent in a few months.
Reports from Spain also confirmed Asensio’s link with Barcelona. But in the interview, Spain International denied any links with Barca. While answering about the possibility of playing for his rival club, he spoke: “I’ve never thought about future at Barça, I have not valued it… so, don’t know! Right now, I can’t answer”.
