Real Madrid news: Manager Carlo Ancelotti has reacted to Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone’s apparent dig at the Los Blancos’ style of play.
The two city rivals clashed at the Madrid derby in the La Liga in their previous game, and Real Madrid emerged victorious. Real Madrid secured a 2-1 win over their fierce rivals to maintain their perfect start to the season.
Rodrygo’s sublime volley in the 18th minute gave Real Madrid the lead before Fede Valverde slotted home from close range in the 36th minute to double their advantage.
Atletico Madrid halved their deficit through Mario Hermoso in the 83rd minute of the match. But Simeone’s side could not find another to salvage a point against the defending league champions.
Real Madrid news: Carlo Ancelotti responds to Diego Simeone’s remark
Speaking after the match, Simeone seemingly made a dig at Real Madrid’s style of play. He said that Real Madrid’s game reminded him of the Atletico Madrid side spearheaded by Diego Costa that was once criticised.
When asked about Simeone’s comment after the match, the Real Madrid manager responded to it by saying he takes that as a ‘compliment’.
“Yes, we defended with a low block and we are used to it,” Ancelotti said after their win over Atletico Madrid.
“We avoided [Antoine] Griezmann or Joao Felix hitting on the counter, the low block allowed us to control them well. If Simeone says that we defended well in low block I say thank you, it’s a compliment,” the Real Madrid manager added.
The win over Atletico Madrid sees Real Madrid return to the La Liga summit. Los Blancos have played six matches in the Spanish top-flight this season and have secured wins in all of those matches.
Real Madrid have 18 points from their first six matches in the league this season. They are two points clear of FC Barcelona, who sit second with 16 points.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid enjoy a 100% win rate so far this season. They kick-started their season with a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup final.
Real Madrid have also secured wins in the two matches they so far have played in the Champions League group stage this season. They cruised to a 3-0 win over Celtic in their opener, before securing a 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig.
