Real Madrid and Barcelona have been rivals forever, from title races all the way to transfers and it looks like the Los Blancos could get one over their eternal rivals.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid need reinforcements over the winter window and with the Catalan giants looking for more defensive reinforcements. Manager Ernesto Valverde has had to watch as both Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen were ruled out with long-term injuries and while both Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet have formed a decent partnership, Valverde is still looking to bring in another star.
That’s exactly why there have been insistent rumours linking Barcelona to a move with Matthias De Ligt, with the Ajax superstar impressing despite his age. The 19-year-old has been a picture of consistency for the Eredivisie side since his debut and has even worn the captain’s armband on more than one occasion this season. However, it’s his calmness, technique, vision and sheer intelligence that makes him one of the most sought-after players in world football.
The Dutchman has been shortlisted by everyone, and I mean everyone, from PSG and Manchester City all the way to Arsenal, Barcelona and even Real Madrid. However, it seems that Barcelona are among the favourites to sign the 19-year-old, with recent rumours linking him to a move to the Camp Nou as soon as January of 2019.
But according to reports from rumour mongers Don Balon, Real Madrid are beyond eager to win the race for the superstar and are willing to offer as much as €80 million even €90 million for the Ajax star. The Los Blancos are also looking for defensive reinforcements during the winter window, having watched their side concede 14 goals this season, the joint second most in the La Liga.
If there are two players in the world worth spending outrageous sums of money on at the moment, it’s Kylian Mbappe and Matthias De Ligt. The 19-year-olds have been in exceptional form for both club and country but De Ligt may be more likely to leave his current club, especially if it’s for Barcelona or even Real Madrid. However, buying in January always tends to add on to the transfer fee, which is something that Real Madrid need to keep in mind.
