Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will sign a €60 million midfield maestro in the January transfer window if required.
While rivials Barcelona have been setting fire to the transfer market, bringing in the likes of Arturo Vidal, Arthur Melo, Malcom and many others, Real Madrid, on the other hand, had a comparatively quiet window. The Los Blancos brought in Thibaut Courtois, Vinicius Junior and Mariano Diaz, letting Mateo Kovacic leave on loan to Chelsea. However, now it seems that Florentino Perez has targeted the January transfer window to bring in a midfield maestro.
A graduate from La Masia, Barcelona’s famed youth academy alongside his brother, Thiago Alcantara left in 2013 and parted ways with the Catalan giants amicably. The move proved to be the right one and since then Thiago has grown incredibly well and matured into a brilliant central midfielder. Many critics and fans have even compared the 27-year-old to La Masia graduates, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.
However, despite Bayern Munich’s insistence that the Spaniard is going no-where, reports have emerged that Manchester United and Chelsea lead the race for the midfielder. Many predicted a return to Barcelona, with Andres Iniesta leaving the club after a long and fruitful spell, but it looks like the La Liga is where all the interest for Thiago is being generated from.
According to reports from Don Balon and multiple other sources, the Los Blancos will make a move for the Bayern Munich superstar in the winter window. The Spaniard was linked with a move during the summer window, but nothing materialised with neither Barcelona or Real Madrid even submitting an official offer for the midfielder.
However, the five-time Bundesliga Champion could be on the move in January with Thiago Alcantara at the top of Florentino Perez’s shortlist. The 27-year-old would be an excellent replacement for Luka Modric, and despite the Croatian winning UEFA’s Best Player Of the Year, he is growing older and at 33 years old, Real Madrid needs to find a replacement.
For any top European Club, Thiago Alcantara would be a brilliant signing. But there is little chance that Bayern Munich would even entertain offers for the midfield maestro. However, with Real Madrid desperately after his signature, things could get interesting, and they’re not the only ones interested. Barcelona, Manchester City and even PSG are very interested in the Spaniard’s services.
