Gareth Bale now holds the record for the most La Liga appearance by any British players.
The Spanish first tier has seen players like Gary Lineker and David Beckham ply their trade with great flair. Bale has played more games than any of those players with a staggering 117 appearances and many more to come. He started in the match against Getafe and established his name in the history books. The former Southampton and Tottenham man is the highest goalscorer from Britain in the La Liga.

The big numbers are underwhelming given how hyped he was when he made the switch to the Spanish capital as the then world record signing. Bale’s return from injury has given Madrid fans hope that life after Cristiano Ronaldo may not turn out to be so bad for them.
None other than David Beckham was the previous holder of this record with 116 games. The ex Manchester City and PSG superstar is one of the most celebrated footballers in the world. He has openly praised Bale on many occasions previously and is a huge admirer of the Los Blancos attacker
Author’s take
Bale is a world class player and his career trajectory has been hard to swallow. From an unstoppable speedster to an overpriced player whose best position is a mystery to all coaches- it has been hard to watch. However, on his day- Gareth Bale is a monster. The record that he just broke is a testament to that. The fact that he can break significant records even when he is off form shows what an amazing player he is.
