Real Madrid have reportedly joined Barcelona in the race to sign San Lorenzo teenager Matias Palacios.
Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on Argentina U17 star Matias Palacios. The 17 year old recently became the youngest ever player to make his debut in the Argentine top flight and has already broken into the first team at San Lorenzo. The midfielder is currently with the Argentina squad for the U17 World Cup tournament which has recently kicked off in Brazil and played the full 90 minutes in the tournament opener against Spain U17 on Monday.
Barcelona scouts were earlier reported to be in attendance of the game in which Palacios, in particular, drew praise, notably hitting the bar. Real Madrid, however, have also emerged as admirers of the 17 year old who has a release clause of €18 m in his current deal with the Blue and Reds. Los Blancos are constantly on the lookout for emerging talents with the potential to blossom into superstars and are ready to pay whatever it takes to secure the youngster.
Pablo Aimar, who is in charge of the Albiceleste youngsters, considers the teenager as one of his most promising players has predicted a bright future for the midfielder. The 17-year-old has been tipped to become a future star and Real would want to make sure that they do whatever they can to get themselves to the front of the queue. With Barcelona scouts having already taken a liking for the youngster, the La Liga rivals may be set to clash once again to try and sign him.
Several sides in Italy are also thought to be following Palacios’ progress. San Lorenzo are aware of the interest from several top flight clubs but are unwilling to let their most prized asset leave for Europe. Palacios is only 17 years old and has scored five goals for Argentina U17. The youngster’s release clause of €18 m is expected to skyrocket is Palacios enjoys a successful World Cup tournament which would make it really difficult for San Lorenzo to keep him.
