Real Madrid to sign Chelsea striker in this transfer window

Real Madrid is looking to strengthen the squad in the January window. Chelsea striker is linked with a move to Madrid.

Olivier Giroud has been an influential player in the Premier League. Whether it was at Arsenal earlier or now at Chelsea, he has made sure that he contributes to his team whenever he is called upon. He has scored 9 goals in 15 games in which he has featured in all competitions this season. In fact, he has scored a goal in every 69 minutes for Chelsea this season.

In a recent international game for France, Didier Deschamps awarded Giroud with the captain armband. The French international is the second-highest goalscorer for his country with 44 goals. He is just 7 goals behind Thierry Henry who is France’s all-time leading goalscorer.

Recent reports have suggested that the Spanish giants, Real Madrid, might be looking to bring Olivier Giroud to Santiago Bernabéu this January. Not only Real Madrid but other European giants like Juventus and Inter Milan were also rumored to get his signature.

A good signing for Real Madrid?

Luka Jovic has returned to his former club, Eintracht Frankfurt, on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 season. This comes after a dismal start to his career with Real Madrid. After one-and-a-half years of his stay with Madrid, Jovic has failed to establish his spot in the team. In 32 appearances across competitions, he netted only two goals.

This has forced Zinedine Zidane to look for new alternatives as Karim Benzema and Mariano Díaz are the only available options in the squad for the number nine position.

Olivier Giroud could prove to be a solid back-up player for Zinedine Zidane. He is good enough to lead Real Madrid during cup games and can make an impact from the bench during league games. Also, he has spent a lot of time on the bench in recent years. Still, he has maintained a perfect atmosphere within the team. Even Frank Lampard was vocal about Giroud’s positive presence during all the training sessions.

Real Madrid to sign Chelsea striker in this transfer window as back-up for Benzema

There are not many top strikers in the world who can offer as much quality as Giroud can and also is ready to be the second-choice striker in the team. Currently, Karim Benzema is the leading goal-scorer for Real Madrid this season. He has 8 goals to his name in 16 appearances. But, apart from him, no one in the team has stepped up to find the back of the net.

He is followed by holding midfielders Casimeiro and Luka Modric with 3 goals scored each to their name. Thus, Zidane wants players who can offer more upfront and pounce on any goal scoring opportunity. Olivier Giroud is a perfect fit for this role. With Luka Jovic gone, Real Madrid should not wait any longer and sign Giroud instantly.

Should Giroud leave Chelsea?

Olivier Giroud is currently the third-choice striker for Frank Lampard. Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham are ahead of him. This season, Giroud has shown that his performances in front of the goal have been much better than both Werner and Abraham. Yet, Frank Lampard cannot guarantee the Frenchman a starting spot.

When asked about his performances at this age, Giroud replied “I’m still very hungry. I think I can still play at the highest level for a couple of years at least and I have big expectations about what we can achieve with Chelsea and the national team.”

Frank Lampard clearly believes that Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner are the future of Chelsea. Thus, to get more game time, Olivier Giroud should move to Real Madrid where he would be considered as the second-choice striker rather than the third-choice.

Also being at Real Madrid will increase his chances to win trophies. Giroud has been a fine player throughout his career and a move to Real Madrid at the age of 34 can be a fitting finale for the Frenchman.
