Real Madrid’s shortlist of managerial candidates to replace Julen Lopetegui is a long one. Having said that, they will now try to convince one of their legends, currently an assistant coach, to take the role.
Real Madrid travel to Barcelona for the season’s first El Clasico in the Camp Nou. The Whites are in desperate need of a victory otherwise will part company Julen Lopetegui after Sunday evening. Florentino Perez has given the 52 year old some leeway to continue until the match against Ernesto Valverde but will not listen to his pleas after that.
The Whites have shortlisted the likes of Santiago Solari, Antonio Conte and Laurent Blanc to replace the former Spain boss who’s sacking is imminent sooner or later. However, it has also been reported that they might turn to club legend Guti who played for the first team between 1995 and 2010, featuring in over 500 matches.
After retiring eight years ago, the 41 year old coached Real Madrid’s B team- Castilla- before heading to join Besiktas as the assistant coach to Senol Gunes. With the Real Madrid rumors looming large, the Turkish outfit’s president Fikret Orman has insisted that the club will allow him to go if the European champions enquire.
“It would give us great pride if Guti returned to Madrid,” Diario AS reported Orman as telling a news conference. “He deserves that role — we were keen for him to take the coaching post here the previous summer. No one has contacted us about Guti so far. We haven’t heard anything about it but, if we receive a request from Real Madrid, we’ll be happy about it.”
The Real Madrid legend was being backed to take over the hot seat at the Santiago Bernabeu after Zinedine Zidane departed in May. However, Florentino Perez turned to Julen Lopetegui. I feel that Real Madrid must not invest in Guti simply due to his lack of experience. At this juncture they are in need of someone experience and Antonio Conte’s playing style and profile is a great match to their requirement.
