Manchester United legend Garry Neville criticized Lampard’s squad after its home defeat against Pep’s Manchester City.
The weekend fixture for the Blues was really tough in front of visitors. Manchester City take the control of the game in the first 30 minutes with a three-goal lead. The midfield maestros of Guardiola literally thrashed Kante-Kovacic-Mount midfield of Chelsea. On the watch of Kevin De Bruyne, City won the mental game by dominating in the midfield gaps in the Chelsea half.
The post-match response of Lampard addressed the spirit of the game and showed a positive attitude towards the season. The season started quite well for Blues after some notable record transfers of the season.
All three new recruits appeared on the Sunday fixture but not able to show up the quality. The attacking moves of Pulisic, Werner, and Ziyech lacks clinical finish in the City box as the supply from the midfield was not that active.
The Fall of the ‘Triplet’
In an interview with Sky Sports, Garry Neville criticized the midfield lineup of Chelsea. “I have to say the midfield of Kante, Mount and Kovacic has been nowhere near good enough,” he told. He also commented on the efforts of Ben Chilwell and Azpilicueta. Full backs were impressive at Stamford Bridge while midfield lost the momentum.
However, this is the third match that Frank Lampard completing without a win after a display of a winning streak with 16 games unbeaten in the start. Blues boss is confident that they can bounce back with much strength and the present situation is a test.
The only goal of the Blues came in the last minute of injury time from the substitute Hudson Odi. This also questioned the starting lineup Lamoard deployed against City. The tactics of Pep once again proved its class on the Sunday show at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea is placed 9th in the table While Pep is on the doors of the top four.
Chelsea still in contention for Title
Manchester City has got a boost from the Bridge ahead of the derby against United on Friday in the league cup. Pep is getting control of the top flight as they leveled up with Spurs on the table with two games in hand. The win against Chelsea will help them to take some air before the clash against the city rivals.
Ole’s United is engaged in the title race with Champions Liverpool and the fall of Reds at St. Mary’s park favored United to hold up the table.
On the other side, Chelsea should return to the track to chase out the ‘big six’. Especially, it is a tough task for Lampard to justify the big-spending with a positive result by the end of the season.
The renovation in the squad is yet to settle and find a perfect eleven. The front three is shining individually but the sync is yet to find. The good news is that wingbacks are showing up the level along with the new backline. The creative midfield is the current trouble that Lampard should address immediately.
Chances are still on for the Blues around the various competitions to find a title to satisfy the money bank of Roman Abramovich. Although Lampard as a legend needs to prove his coaching ability with such an expensive squad. “It’s normal that we take knocks but now is a test”, Frank said to Mirror.
