Spanish media outlet AS reports that UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid are planning to make a move for Fluminense’s 21-year-old youngster Pedro Guilherme. However, the Madrid club could face competition from league rivals Sevilla and Serie A sides AC Milan and AS Roma.
It is said that Real Madrid are hoping to sign the best young talents in the game today and Pedro is a part of this plan. The centre-forward has a contract with Fluminense until 2021 and reportedly has a release clause of €50 million. However, Sergio Santos Chozas, the AS journalist who reported the story, believes that Real Madrid wouldn’t have to trigger the player’s release clause to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu.
“Sources suggest that Fluminense could accept him leaving for a figure between €20 million”, the journalist stated. Real Madrid already has two centre-forwards in their ranks in the forms of Karim Benzema and Mariano Diaz, but it won’t hold the club back from signing Pedro according to Chozas.
Pedro came through the ranks of the Fluminense academy before being called up to the senior side last year. However his first ever league appearance for the club came in 2016 when he came on as a late substitute in Fluminense’s 2-1 victory over Flamengo. The 21-year-old scored ten goals and assisted two from the 19 league appearances he made in the 2017/18 season.
Most South American players dream of playing for either Barcelona or Real Madrid and getting such an opportunity at the young age of 21 will be too hard for any such person to decline.
